Many users I ‘ve seen who thought hacking is all about cracking the password from code!! And they don’t know some times its all not about the password. Cookie stealing is the second most used trick by attacker to get access to desired victim’s account . Cookie stealing can be done with many ways but here I am trying to give you some useful trick to save yourself from being hacked with this kind of situation because as always prevention is better than cure..

This are the basic tips which can save you from normal cookie stealing  tricks..

• Don’t use anonymous Java Scripts. What ever they claim to do. Many people I ‘ve seen fallen in this trick. Attacker using some social engineering and force user to believe on the script and when user going to run the script from the other side the cookie will be transferred to desired location and attacker can use it to gain access to victim’s account.
• Use latest and updated browsers I prefer Mozilla Firefox with no script add-on. Which can give you alert where ever this kind of attack can be done .
• If you don’t know JavaScript, then don’t use scripts from www.userscripts.org and other sites like it.
• Sometimes Attacker can used with some of XSS(click to know more about xss) and can grab your cookies no script add-on can save you there.
• Its not necessary that it only can grab with use of java script it can be with some malicious codes better not no use of unknown or suspicious sites.

Include the above scripts to your browsing habits and you can save yourself from normal attack of cookie stealing..

Nowadays phishing is such a common technique which used by the people who learning to hack in very primary stage, And the funniest thing is that they left it after learning the phishing and cookie stealing and some of fake mailing as well. Here we are going to talk about how to save your self from being hacked via phishing .

Phishing is normally and widely use to hack people’s accounts on social networking sites like orkut, facebook , myspace , netlog etc. Sometimes it happen when you are surfing on this kind of sites and suddenly Login page come up to you and asking for username and password , Now this is BUZZ for you check URL of the page if you are using orkut than check on URL first it shout look like

You can see the underlined part if the login page is original of google’s / orkut you can find URL like above. You must check the sub domain portion here like www.google.com/…… Etc like this and

Heres an example of phishing page url :

You can see that check out its sub domain it might like orkut.freehostanyone.com like this you can see its root domain is not google one beware of login there . If you going to login there than your account id and password will go to its creator or owner of that fake page than your personal information can be stolen , can be used wrong and you can also face unexpected modification .

This thing is also work in case of other sites like facebook,my space .Dont forget to check its url before any accidental login page. You can also use software for pass most of this kind of phishing attempts (not all) Norton Internet Security which came with meter in browser its showing alert in browser for phishing site/page .The nowadays other browsers also came with this kind of ability. Recently some one made mass hacking on orkut using phishing technics.
first he made a profile of girl/ hack some one with fake page saying its “orkut”
after that he use his profile update status to hack id.when user update his/her status message the message/update will
display on his friend home page like this :

After wards the user will see update on his Orkut Home and if he/her will unaware about phishing than he/she will enter into fake page and leave

his/her id/password in fake page. The hacker will get ID/Pass which enter by user/now victim from Log file and form mailer in inbox and the hacker use it to

login to victim account and do the same update status with his fake-page/phishing page link and make fall other user in trap..

This condition will work like a cycle and lots user got hacked via this method:

Now, you think that how to save your self from being hacked via phishing.. than here is some tips for you.

* Do not Enter your ID/Password in suspicious site or link.
* Dont believe on any script doesn’t matter what its claims to do.
* when you browsing  site like orkut if you click on link it will give you alert like this :

* Than you can visit the site but if it will tell you to enter id password there DO NOT ENTER YOUR ID password to that site/page.
* Always take care to check URL before entering ID/Password
If URL like : www.orkut.co.in/Main#home.aspx or www.Orkut.co.in than its safe to give id password but if it will look like
orkut.xxx.com or 0rkut.somehost.com/ServiceLogin.htm than ALERT DO NOT ENTER YOUR ID PASSWORD THERE.
* If you just take care of this precautions than you can surf safly on orkut and also this is for other social media sites.

In my previous post i tried to explain you what is XSS and what are alert points of this kind of vulnerability!

Now, In this section I am going to explain you how to find this vulnerability and make it fix.

In manual way you can perform test of XSS using simple java scripts code which you can inject in page via search boxes , On pages like Guest books and in simple where input text shown on page and can excute as HTML/JS code.You can test it with various mathods but in general you can check with this kind of script.

Inject script in the places which above mationed .

OR  You can automatic check XSS with web scanner you can google it the word “xss scanner”.and also can perform test via tool name Acunetix Web Scanner.

Now, What if you find this vulnerability in to your application?? How to fix it?

bug XSS: Brief introduction of general bug Part 2 Preventions/bug fixing

here the steps to fix this bug or prevent your application from it.

* Input filtration :- *  Characters must be filtered out from the web application inputs. These should be filtered out both in their ASCII and HEX values.
*  Filter output based on input parameters for special characters.
* Validating/Identiying :-*   Validate input values from input boxes and identifying special characters.
*   Make validation to encoded characters and strings also.
* Encoding:-
* Encoded output on input malicious data to stop form excution.

This are the way to stop this bug from your application.

From the day When I am a student of web analysis and security, I have seen many types of bugs and error on such sites.Even most reputed sites like Google pages,Orkut,Facebook and Tagged,IN.com many mores sites are noramally having xss bug in  their applicaitons most will be fixed after lots of misuse of this bug and result will be some lost their accounts and lotsa lost thier personal information.Thanks to unawareness of programming .Its not the fault of programmer but its fault of awareness and workload.
